What We Are and What We Do
"May the Lord Jesus Christ himself, may God our Father who loved us and in his mercy gave us eternal consolation and hope through grace, console your hearts and strengthen them for every good work and word."
- 2 Thessalonians, 2:16-17
Consoling Grace facilitates improved care, support, information, resources, and outreach services for seriously ill and bereaved persons and families within churches, schools, organizations, health-care and residential facilities.
Consoling Grace seeks to:
- honor the sacredness of every human life and treasure the dignity inherent in each human person, during every part of life's journey.
- use sacred scripture, Judeo-Christian faith traditions, and the wisdom of our elders to recover lived-compassion and renew authentic community.
- teach individuals and communities to improve care and provide consolation along with life-affirming information and resources.
- provide effective, replicable, and 'easy to use' illness and grief support programs to assist faith communities in creating or enhancing their own outreach services.
Consoling Grace provides:
- program materials, speakers, training seminars, consultations, monthly bereavement letters, attachments, reflections, articles, web forums, and other resources which aim to transform faith communities and renew and rebuild support for ill, dying and grieving persons and their families. Services provided do not constitute professional training or licensure.
Consoling Grace inspires volunteers to become 'neighbors with heart' who form a 'fabric of living love' to care for those who suffer from serious illness and unaccompanied grief. In this way, a truly seamless garment of Christ's tender care can be evidenced 'from generation to generation.'
We pray that communities of faith will be enlivened, educated, and encouraged to "recognize Christ in his most distressing disguise," (Mother Teresa) and to serve him in the care of the ill and bereaved.
